How to color an Axolotl

Is it just me or does it seem like axolotl’s are everywhere right now?! Or maybe it’s just because my 6 year old just discovered these cute creatures and is completely obsessed with them.

Let’s dive into how to color an axolotl. IT’S SO CUTE AM I RIGHT?!

Grab 4 Shades of Pink

Feel free to use any colors you like, but in this case I wanted to create a pink axolotl. But there are so many other colors of this beautiful creature.

01. Color with your base colors:

Color the Gills with your first base color and color the body with your other base color. Let this dry completely before moving on to the next step.

02. Add Shadows:

Take your next darkest color and add shadows around the face, legs and tail. Take the base color you used for the gills and add shadows with that same color again.

03. Add More Shading:

Take your darkest color and add details to the gills and spots around the body.

04. Add Details:

Take your darkest shade again and add smaller details over the areas you colored in step 3. Next grab your highlighter and add highlights. You can use a white gel pen or white acrylic paint pen.

Everything you need to color this:

  • Marker Paper
  • Alcohol Markers: 4 shades of a color.
  • White Gel Pen or Acrylic Paint pen:

    Coloring Tips

Use Marker Paper : Alcohol markers work best on marker paper to help the colors blend easier and to prevent bleed through.

Experiment with colors: Don’t hesitate to experiment with different colors like purple, green, or grey to create your unique axolotl.

Makes for a Great Gift: I love giving my artwork to friends as gifts! Create them on cards or frame them for the perfect gift.
